For the past seven years, the Philadelphia Jewish Labor Committee (PJLC) has hosted a unique program celebrating the holiday of Passover. This ceremony ties the exodus of the oppressed Hebrew slaves from Egypt to those in our midst who struggle every day for dignity and freedom - especially economic freedom. We invite you to join us in attending this model Seder, which will engage attendees in a lively discussion about the importance of freedom and delivering hope for a better day. This year, Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Philadelphia (JCRC) will be co-sponsoring the event Moishe House is involving young adults in the event by offering a special subsidized price. If you are able to join the Moishe House contingent, please pre-register by March 28, 2008 by emailing us at moishehousephilly@gmail.com. The cost of the Seder and meal is normally $18.00, but if you register through Moishe House, we will subsidize the cost down to $10 per person. The meal will be kosher and vegetarian options will be available (please include if you are vegetarian when you RSVP). Help us continue to strengthen and renew ties between the labor movement and the Jewish Community in Philadelphia, two communities that share many of the same social justice values. As we recount one of the greatest stories of our time, we will connect ancient to current issues of freedom and liberation.

Join JEMS for a chametz**-fest! Empty your cabinets and bring all your leavened goodies to share with your fellow Jewish engineers, mathematicians, and scientists. Not for the carb-conscious. Hope to see you there! **Chametz is any food that is not kosher for Passover. Think bread, pasta, cookies... Lots of Jews empty their homes of these items before Passover so as not to own any chametz during the holiday. Please bring only packaged food items that are under hasgacha (labeled with a kosher symbol such as OU, OK, CRC, etc.) Not sure what any of this means? Feel free to contact us with any questions.Location: Levine Hall Room 512 (Penn)

Birthright Israel NEXT City Wide Grad Network
Join us for our next salon, where we discuss thought-provoking articles from Guilt and Pleasure Magazine. Philly's officially on the map for hosting our own version of this nationwide, cross-cultural, forward-thinking movement that is "making Jews talk more!" This month, we're being hosted at the National Museum of American Jewish History in order to discuss their current exhibit, "Shaping Space, Making Meaning," that opens up conversation about the current state of the Jewish community in America. Click here for the article we'll also be discussing, "A Stereotype with Muscle: Annotations on the idea of the weak Jew." Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, begins at sundown, providing us with an emotional and historical backdrop to our discussion on current issues of Jewish identity. Our discussion will be facilitated by Beth Lawson, Ph.D. candidate at in religion at Temple University, whose research focuses on modern American Jewish identity. Refreshments will be served. Co-sponsored with birthright israel NEXT Location: National Museum of American Jewish History, 55 N. 5th Street

Please join us for a community concert to commemorate lives touched by the Holocaust as our new chorus of Jewish young adults, Kol haKavod, performs for the first time. Come out to support local young adults, as our generation takes on this meaningful and inspiring task! Kol haKavod is a Philadelphia-area chorus of Jewish young adults. We were founded by alumni of Taglit-Birthright Israel, but are open to all young adults. For this concert, we have been learning largely Yiddish songs, to honor the Jewish communities who lived, died, and fought back in ways large and small against the Holocaust. City Wide Grad Network Shabbat
Want to attend Shabbat morning services but not sure where to go? Nervous about walking into an unfamiliar service? Worried you won't know anyone?
Join us for the next event in our "shul-hopping" series. Once each month, we'll visit a different area synagogue as a group to experience their Shabbat morning services. This is the last event of its kind this semester, but stay tuned in the fall for more shul-hopping dates! This month, join us at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel for services. Following services, Cantor Grainer will be hosting grad students and young adults at her home for Shabbat lunch. If you want to go to lunch, RSVP IS REQUIRED below so that we can plan accordingly. Otherwise, feel free to just show up for services! What to expect: BZBI Shabbat morning services are traditional and egalitarian, using the Conservative Sim Shalom siddur (prayer book). There is a full Torah reading, a sermon given by Rabbi Stone, and lots of singing led by Cantor Grainer. Following services, there is a kiddush upstairs from where services are held. The community is very inter-generational and welcoming. Location: BZBI at 18th and Spruce

Israel - whose creation and survival as a state has been marked by so many losses - decided to designate its memorial day on the day preceding Yom Ha'atzma'ut, Independence Day, as its day of commemoration for the fallen. On this day, we recall and mark the pain of our losses in public and in private. We commemorate the heroes who gave their lives to Eretz Israel, to defend our loved ones and homeland. We are commemorating those lost in terror attacks. Please join us this evening at 6:15pm in commemorating these brave souls, our Jewish brothers and sisters, at Steinhardt Hall (39th and Walnut) in the Berkowitz living room on the first floor. Location: Steinhardt Hall, 215 S. 39th St., Berkowitz Living Room (1st Floor)
